On Friday 14th March 2025, CAA Norway granted Isar Aerospace SE the first launch permit for a test launch from Andøya Spaceport.

Isar Aerospace will be Norway's first commercial launch operator after being granted a launch permit to perform a test launch of the Spectrum launch vehicle from Andøya Spaceport. The approved launch window is set for March 20th to March 31st, 2025. The launch permit for Isar Aerospace was granted following a thorough review process, during which CAA Norway evaluated the application based on the Norwegian Space Act and FAA Part 450 as a standard. The assessment covered critical safety elements, including flight safety systems, termination protocols, tracking systems, and ground safety measures. The permit is only valid for the maiden flight. The first test launch is an historic milestone for the space industry in Norway.

Andøya Spaceport, officially opened on November 2nd, 2023, received its operational license on August 22nd, 2024. The launch will be conducted under strict safety protocols, including restrictions around the spaceport to ensure the safety and security of personnel on land, sea and air.

– The decision underscores CAA Norway’s commitment to ensuring safe and regulated space launches. As of now, future launch operations from Andøya Spaceport by Isar Aerospace will continue to be subject to a launch permit in accordance with rigorous safety and compliance requirements, says Lars Kobberstad, Director General of CAA Norway.
