Andøya Spaceport

The Norwegian spaceport, Andøya Spaceport, was officially opened on the second of November 2023. Andøya Spaceport received a permit to commence operations on 22 August 2024.

It has an agreement with Isar Aerospace (Home - Isar Aerospace) for use of the spaceport. Isar Aerospace must also apply for a permit for each launch it conducts from the spaceport.

Andøya Spaceport has a permit for up to 30 launches per year. Up to 4 launches can take place at night, in the period 23:00 – 07:00. It can be launched in a sector from 280 degrees to 360 degrees.

30 is the total number of launches allowed when more launch pads are built and completed. As of today, the spaceport has only one launch pad and this platform is exclusively used by Isar Aerospace.

During a launch, Andøya Spaceport is responsible for ensuring safety on the ground and in the vicinity of the spaceport. This means that during launch, engine testing, fuelling and transport of rockets to the launch area etc, there will be restrictions on traffic and access in the vicinity of the spaceport. During a launch itself there will be a secure area. The area of such will be calculated using a range of criteria, which may vary from launch to launch, but will always comprise an area of at least 2.3 km from the launching area. Strict requirements are imposed for notifying launches locally and internationally, as well as for industries affected.

CAA Norway oversees Andøya Spaceport.
